Jets Over the Heartland Winamac, Indiana

I know it's geeky, but I love shooting forms of locomotion. Specifically I like shooting aviation.

As my husband and I were out on a bike ride with our little flock of goslings we noticed the annual miniature air show, Jets Over the Heartland, was going on.

We decided to take the kids and watch these miniature wings of fury zip, turn, and weave entertaining all that were watching.

As a side note, cost of admission is $5.00 per car. CHEAP FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT!! There is no restrictions on bringing your own food, or beverage, so take a picnic! They do have concessions there in case you get so caught up in the fun that you end up staying for two meals.

While they do have some bleachers I would recommend bringing lawn chairs for optimal comfort. Don't worry about kids getting antsy, every kid I saw there was so in-thralled with the jets no one seemed bored, but if you have a little one there is tons of nice grass that they can sit and play in.

I really can't express how family friendly this event really is.

Back to the important stuff, I've been shooting commercial aviation for some time. I find myself, dare I say, fairly good at shooting the giant boats in the sky.

This event was a WHOLE NEW BALLGAME! Those little planes were FAST. It took me several minutes to figure out how to focus, and catch the planes just so I could get a shot. Once I figured it out though it was GAME ON. I took tons of great pictures and I can't wait for the next event so I can go shoot them again. It was fast pace, fun, and a new challenge.

*If your wondering about the size of these, they really range quite a bit, I would say the average size of the ones we saw were between 3.5 - 5 feet, but we also saw one gulf stream that was at least 6 or 7 feet.

Mind's Eye - Locomotion (Planes, Trains, and Automobiles)

I'm a little late for Mind's Eye this week, but never fear I'm still carrying on.

This week is Locomotion. I want to see pictures of anything that moves.

I'd like to get more people participating, so make sure you link people back here in your blogs.

Here are my pictures for this week...

Next weeks theme is going to be "Food", so start thinking ahead.

Now show me your pictures for this week!!

Day 106 Air Force One

Last week I heard that the President was coming into town. While I don't care to much about seeing the President himself... (sue me). The plane geek in me did want to see Air Force One.

I managed to get approximately a football field away, which I thought was pretty impressive. I will say it was an impressive sight. It was a horrible day for pictures, but an impressive sight nonetheless.

Here are some of my favorites.

Day 97 Plane spotting

If you visit me regularly here you know that occasionally Mike and I go plane spotting. This weekend Mike and I decided to take off to Chicago to just get away for the night.

Of course since we were in Chicago we hit our favorite Ohare spotting area, and were greeted by a ton of other spotters out that day.

One gentleman specifically was Joel Love. (click his name and it will take you to his website) He was the friendliest man. More people should be as friendly, and America would truly be a lovely place.

He shoots air shows and gave us some tips, and hints. He also had a scanner and could tell us what planes were coming in.

Joel if you come here, thanks a ton and I hope we can meet up again soon.

Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

Day 91, DE PLANES DE PLANES!!

Most of you know that Mike and I have an unusual obsession with aircraft. He likes the different types of planes, and I like the different airlines. I get a thrill out of seeing planes from other countries.

Yesterday on our way home from Wisconsin we found an awesome little spot where the planes flew RIGHT OVER OUR HEAD, into OHare. So we stopped and got some pictures, while playing "Name that Plane".

Day 71 Coming home.

A 70's theme. I'm not sure how I did it but I have managed to make several of these photo's look old.

Day 69/365 Going from the SBN to the MSP

That folks is my shameless attempt at rapping. You have my word I won't attempt it again.

You do have to admit it's a little clever.

On to the pictures. This weekend we went up to Minnesota for the Vikings/Eagles play off game. The original plan was to drive up over two days and then take two days to drive back. While I wasn't looking forward to that, I had resigned myself to it being the most cost effective way. UNTIL, Mike surprised me at the last minute by scored us some pricelined tickets for CHEAP! So we flew up!

Here are Saturday's pictures from the airport and some of the city.

Such a loaded question...

There is something about this picture I like, underlying message maybe?

Day at the State Park 21/365

For today's project we decided to go to the Tippecanoe State Park and find some wildlife. We are so fortunate to have such a nice park just a stones throw from our home. As a bonus, now that it's fall it's FREE!!

The wildlife was very scarce. I did see two of the BIGGEST SQUIRRELS I have ever seen. Let's just say they will have NO PROBLEM making it through winter. Unfortunately, we passed them and had to back up, by the time we got back they had run off. I was so disappointed.

Nonetheless, I did get some good shots.

This plane was out at out "airport" on our way home. I just liked the shot.
